Project
As one initiative from the Athletics Master Plan, Ohio Wesleyan teamed with The Collaborative to develop the 24,200sf Meek Aquatic and Recreation Center.
The new LEED Silver Certified natatorium, featuring a ten-lane competitive pool with diving well, serves OWU’s competitive diving and swimming program, as well as intramural and community recreation use.
Support areas include varsity locker rooms, public locker rooms and a family restroom / changing room. Additionally, a “wet” classroom accommodates classes and debriefing sessions with swimmers straight out of the pool.
OWU is utilizing a geothermal system to create energy to heat and cool the building, as well as to heat water for the 25-yard by 25-meter swimming pool. Funded through federal grants, the geothermal system is a teaching tool for Ohio Wesleyan’s students and the community.
