Project
Hartwick College is a private liberal arts college of 1,500 students, located in the northern foothills of the Catskill Mountains. The campus consists of 425 acres - only 100 of which are developed. In 2011, Hartwick teamed with The Collaborative Inc to engage the campus community in developing a facilities master plan. Developed through a series of on-campus workshops, the facilities plan will guide decisions over the next ten years.
The dramatic elevation change on Oyaron Hill challenged The Collaborative’s team to think creatively when addressing issues such as vehicular and pedestrian circulation, new building sites and open space.
The Plan creates a clear circulation pattern without compromising convenience or safety. A phased implementation will convert the predominately one-way streets to two-way, making campus easier to navigate. New signage and street presence will also aid visitors.
With 80% of Hartwick’s students living on campus, updating amenities like the Student Rec Center and Student Union were identified as high priorities.
