Project
Ottawa Hills Local Schools (OHLS) embarked on a Capital Campaign to reinvent their academic support structure and to enhance the Junior High and High Schools’ STEAM environments (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). The Full STEAM Ahead Capital Campaign focuses on creating a consolidated Science and Research Corridor, reinvention of the visual arts studios and introduction of a Maker Space.
The literal and figural center piece of the project is the Foundry, as it was later named by the students. The Foundry is designed to be the academic heart of the 7-12 school building. The Collaborative worked closely with OHLS to develop a design strategy that took full advantage of an idle interior courtyard, transforming and connecting the building core in a way that creates a unified space that promotes ideation, innovation and experimentation.
Additionally, the Science and Research corridor offers interdisciplinary learning and encourages a research culture. The ARTlab inspires students to create and experiment; developing influences through studio art and performance education.

Client Testimonial
"The Ottawa Hills School District is so excited about the true 'transformation' of our Junior/Senior High School that is taking place with this project. The project has helped gain a whole new excitement for learning and created brand new energy amongst our students, staff and community. From the start of our work this was truly inspired by the Collaborative. Their creative design, innovative leadership and inspiring ideas have helped lead our top-ranked school district to even more success."
