North Towers Renovations

Originally constructed in mid-1960’s, the North Towers project includes the renovation and enhancement of two residence halls located on the Ohio State University’s main campus; the 13-story Taylor Tower and the 12-story Drackett Tower.

As part of this project, Taylor Tower will now meet ADA requirements by creating an expanded lobby that provides easy connection to the newly renovated open lounge spaces, and allows at-grade access to the new southern residential quad.

In Drackett Tower, existing administrative functions will be re-located to other buildings to allow for a significant expansion in dedicated student social space. This includes new floor openings within the existing structure to physically and visually connect important gathering areas. Additionally, the building envelope will be improved, inclusive of a building-wide window replacement and reinvention.

Both facilities will also be updated to address deferred maintenance, including the replacement of aged mechanical, electric, fire protection and plumbing systems and the introduction of air conditioning. All indoor and outdoor social spaces will also be re-imagined and reconfigured to allow for a greater variety of spaces to accommodate the needs of today’s students.
