Project
The Spartan Success Center will transform half of the first floor of the historic Hannah Administration Building at Michigan State University into a centralized, student-centered hub fostering belonging and academic achievement. Open to all students, the Center is intentionally designed to support first-generation students and commuters to advance retention, graduation and inclusive excellence goals.
Built in 1968 as the administrative heart of the university, the building is evolving to support contemporary needs with a warm, inviting, student-forward environment. Adjacent to the Spartan One-Stop occupying the other half of the floor, the project co-locates the First Generation Student Center, Transfer Student Center, Academic Advising, Strategic Retention / Engagement and Career Services alongside tutoring rooms, wellness support areas, informal study zones, lounge space, a kitchenette and conference rooms for workshops and events.
Design priorities include universal accessibility, sustainability, flexible furnishings, intuitive wayfinding and a warm environment that encourages connection and community. The project also incorporates robust technology, integrated AV, secure IT infrastructure, extended-hours security and the evaluation of existing mechanical systems.
