Project

Metroparks Toledo created Pearson Park North with 320 acres of donated land. This new Park embraces the native habitat of the Great Black Swamp. Re-constructed wetlands and indigenous plantings are restoring the land back to the 1800s pioneer days. The focal point is the Johlin log cabin, which was relocated to the new Park. Constructed in 1867, the cabin was donated by Johlin family descendants.

The Collaborative worked with the Metroparks and Pearson North Committee to Master Plan the site, which includes wetlands, a birding platform, walking trails and new restroom building and shelter house. The cabin plays host to historical reenactments of 1800s pioneer life, and offers tours and demonstrations for school groups and families. The new shelter house, also designed by The Collaborative, compliments the existing log cabin, and provides a covered staging area for lectures and programming. The shelter includes rest rooms and a kitchen area for catered events. Sliding doors secure the building when not in use, as well as provide protection from the elements during activities.
