Project
Situated within the oldest portion of Wyandot Memorial Hospital (WMH), the existing Dining Area and Kitchen were dated in comparison to the high standard of contemporary design throughout the rest of the Hospital. Additionally, patients and families utilizing the new Surgery Addition had to traverse circuitous, dimly lit corridors to access the Dining Facilities. This experience didn’t reflect the high standard of care at WMH. So, when Wyandot’s forward-thinking leadership was looking to solve this issue, they charged Gilbane Building Company and The Collaborative with creating a better experience for their space through a fast-moving Design/Build effort.
Creating an improved dining experience, involved a series of updates. First was a complete gut of the 3,350 SF Dining Area and Kitchen including removing a bearing wall and other walls currently breaking up the space to create more room for seating, bring daylight in, and connect the staff and patrons. Additionally, a 4,625 SF renovation to upgrade the finishes and fixtures in the adjacent Corridors, Restrooms, and Staff Locker Rooms, improved the experience of getting to the new Dining Area from other parts of the hospital.
In addition to significant aesthetic changes, the renovation involved much needed infrastructure improvements including HVAC upgrades, roof and window replacement, new kitchen hood system, gas conversion, and sanitary replacement.
